Braai day 12/02/2022 - Get together with other people from Hive
It's braai time!
This is one of the most favorite past-times of the Saffer (South African). Whether it is alone as a family or together with friends and their families the braai is more than just a way of cooking.
When someone says: "Let's have a braai." It means far more than just putting your meat on a grill over fire, though it is certainly a focal point of the event.
It means the host generally provides wood and salads. The host and the guests bring a variety of things: Meat and drinks usually being the main ones. People also often bring crisps and other finger food.
Our guests this past weekend were @therneau,
@jussipasetti and their children.
@therneau brought us a fantabulous sourdough bread that he made himself. More from me about his bread in another post. I am sure that he could make a post about his bread too!
As you can see in the next three pictures below, I managed to get someone with their eyes closed on every picture! 馃ぃ馃ぃ馃ぃ
@clairemobey and
@aimeludick are also in the pics while @Matthew-Williams can be seen further below.
@merenludick was at his friend and only joined us later.
So what we have on the grill today is chicken kebabs, 2 large pork chops, 2 different sausages and some marinaded corn quarters.
The corn thing I picked up while having a braai with some other people and the one sister is vegetarian. You marinade the corn, or mielies as we call them in steak/braai marinade as though they were meat. This makes them nice and sweet once they are cooked slightly charred on the outside.
@clairemobey also made her amazing potato salad, I am sure she can tell you all about that herself!
I was pleased to have another dad-guy at the braai who could help me with the meat when I needed to step away. Thanks @therneau! 馃馃徎
The kids had so much fun, us as the adults got to socialize and everyone shared a meal together. A real worth-it experience and worth repeating!
Until next time! Cheers!
