It's that time of year again!
Merry Christmas Steemit! I hope everyone is having a great Christmas and spending it doing what they love. Even though it's Boxing Day here now, I thought I'd wait a little while before posting.
I remember a time when Christmas used to be really special and exciting. When I was younger, I remember waking up with a large sock full of chocolates at the foot of my bed that I would group together and count. Quantity always over quality in those days!
When I was 9 or 10 I would wake up really early in the morning, when it was still dark, and look at the setups my parents stayed up late putting together. Most years we had a tree, but when we first moved to Australia we didn't, so we used the dining room table. In 1998, there was one time we actually celebrated Christmas on New Years' Day, because both my brother and sister are born around this time too, and thought we'd try putting them all together for one celebration.
I didn't like that lol. The week between the 25th and New Years' that year was one of the longest waits of my life
It's changed a little
As I grew older, I started to care less and less about Christmas. It feels like it lost some of the magic. Especially now, as an adult, I don't need to wish for nice things because I can buy them myself, and I can't remember when I stopped believing in Santa Claus.... Maybe when I was 6 or 7? I remember the first home I lived in had a built-in electric fireplace on the wall. My parents told me that Santa got in through the chimney, so I went and looked at our fireplace and I vividly remember thinking "How will he fit through that... there's no chimney hole for him to climb down". Mysteries indeed...
Anyway, fast forward to today and Christmas feels like any other day. We put a tree up and have some wreaths and other decorations, but I'm so caught up in my day to day activities that I probably don't take the time to stop and think about it. I remember spending the days leading up to Christmas in anticipation, counting down the days, the sleeps, the hours. The 24th was spent in preparation for the next day, wrapping gifts and deciding how under the tree they should all be arranged so they'd look good.
This year the 24th and 25th came and went like a normal day. I actually spent most of yesterday here on Steemit or on Bittrex, but the day was really quiet in terms of the markets, so I think I spent alot of the day away from the computer doing something else. We had a nice lunch, which mom usually puts together, and that was actually pretty good!
I hope the rest of Steemit is having or had a good Christmas, and lets hope for some gains in the new year!
