! [ENGLISH]

Living to be 100 years old is no small feat; reaching 100 is a blessing from God in our lives, but above all, reaching 100 in good health—because old age is often when all kinds of illnesses, pains, and many other issues begin to arise. However, reaching 100 in perfect health and still active is a miracle and a blessing from God.

I don’t know the secret to living to 100; what I do know is that very few people manage to reach that age. The Bible says that the strongest live to be 80; beyond that age, it is solely by God’s grace. I could say that to reach 100 years of age, it’s necessary to live a healthy lifestyle, eat well, and get plenty of exercise in order to lead a healthy life and extend one’s life by a few more years; however, I don’t know that for certain.

My grandmother lived to be 100 years old and was healthy, lucid, and active. Even though she had a few ailments at that age, she cooked, did laundry, planted crops, and did many things that not just anyone does—especially at that age— but I do know that my grandmother wasn’t someone who exercised; rather, she was a very active and hardworking person from a very young age. She also led a busy life, as she was in charge of her own children and her sister’s children, and she also worked selling food. It wasn’t until she was an older adult that she came to lead a quiet life.

My grandmother didn’t exactly eat a completely healthy diet either, since she preferred arepas—corn arepas, among other things. I wouldn’t say my grandmother followed a strict diet; she also drank a lot of plain cow’s milk. That’s why I say I don’t know the secret to living to 100, but I do know that if we lead a peaceful life, we might manage to live a few more years.

I think one of the saddest things about reaching 100 is watching your family pass away, because my grandmother saw two of her children pass away, as well as her parents and her siblings—in fact, she was the only one of her siblings to reach that age— that’s the sad thing about reaching such an advanced age and not having your whole family with you. I don’t want to live to be 100, but I do want to live long enough to see my grandchildren, watch my children grow up, see them become adults, and watch them fulfill their dreams. I think that’s the greatest happiness—seeing your whole family together.
