Freeing oneself from the taboos that society drags down to this day is an individual battle that is worth facing if one pursues something as necessary as happiness. I believe that the main goal of human beings is to be happy and that is what life is all about, without that implying harming others.
Once we have defined what makes us happy, we cannot sit back and wait for it to fall from the sky. We are not always lucky enough to be given what we want, so we have to fight for it.
Sometimes the fear of being different or risky ends up closing off any possibility of achieving happiness. It is here that we must find the strength and inner courage to get rid of the ties that prevent us from flying.

These expressions take me back to my adolescence and early youth where I decided that I wanted to go to university to study Civil Engineering. It was difficult to choose a major that suited what I liked to do and this was the one that came closest.
My parents were surprised by my choice and tried to change my mind. It is definitely a career that is a bit hard for women, but since I was a child I have learnt something and that is that if something makes me happy, I will go for it tooth and nail, despite all setbacks.
That's how I managed to get my degree and spent five beautiful and memorable years of study in which I met some very good friends that I still have today. This group of friends help each other nowadays and we keep in touch from all over the world, as not all of us are still here in Cuba.
It is true that when I first graduated it was a bit difficult, because the builders themselves were shocked by the idea of having a woman as a boss. Little by little this changed, I managed to have good relations with everyone, we respected each other and they supported me a lot because I behaved in the same way with them.
Were there ever any disagreements? That's true. We also had our arguments and I even had to swear a few times when the situation called for it, but it's all part of the package.
I also encountered a very experienced senior professional who was supposed to be my tutor and had me pulling out material volume accounts "for me to do something". He had me wasting my time instead of teaching and guiding me which was what I was supposed to do, but this was also part of the package.
On the other hand, when I changed jobs I met wonderful people who supported me and are good friends that I keep. In addition to work issues, we share interests in the speciality, in self-improvement and also in everyday things in life.
Today I am a happy professional who, although I have had to go through difficult situations, I enjoy my profession, which has brought me many satisfactions. I believe that it has been worth the effort, because of the courage that pushed me to free myself from all the obstacles that I had to face to achieve my happiness.
I hope that my publication will serve as an inspiration to those who dream of achieving happiness in any area of life. If you really want something, listen to it. This from a tireless warrior who has been successful in fighting.
