For the #inktober slither prompt I first thought of drawing an imaginary rattlesnake pit filled will intertwined rattlesnakes and an occasional rattle sticking in the air and rattling.
After searching the net for base photos, I decided to draw two dancing snakes based on an image from Wikicommons and flickr shown below. This media file shows what the snakes were really doing. They were in a vicious fight.
Rattlesnakes in a den spend the winter slithering around each other but they aren't in a fight. They are slithering to generate heat so they could stay warm.
The snakes in the sample photo were a greenish grey with rather subdued markings. I wanted to play with the color of their skin.
The proof of art image shows that I drew the snakes using my wax prismacolor pencils. I drew one snake with yellow ocher and the other in pink beige. I then outlined the snakes with black ink and drew the scales on the pink snake with green. This gave it the greyed feel of the sample photo. I drew the scales of the yellow snake in red.
The dark lines were the shadows as seen in the photo. I might add a background someday. I think I will add the shadow for the rattles.
