Hello, dear friends in the Family & Friends community—I’m so happy to spend a little time with you sharing the experiences that shape our daily lives at home. Motherhood is a wonderful journey of constant adaptation, where we sometimes have to juggle multiple aspects at once. On one hand, I’m talking with my oldest son, who’s already spreading his wings and making a life for himself as an independent man; on the other, I’m fully immersed in Danielito’s college applications, and at the same time, my mind is already planning out what the next school year will look like for the youngest one in the house. And all of this without neglecting the master’s thesis I need to make progress on!
But right now, my top priority is making sure Danielito secures his spot at the university, putting all the necessary plans into action to ensure that goal is met. At 16, even though he’s about to make the leap to higher education, he’s still a minor in the eyes of the law, which means I’ll have to go with him to register, tour the campus, and meet his professors. As a mother, this process fills me with indescribable emotion; it’s an achievement for the whole family and a profound reason to thank God amid the uncertainty of the systems, the wait for placements, and the nerves surrounding each screening stage.
We’re currently navigating the requirements of the OPSU, dealing with websites that sometimes crash, and reviewing the institutions’ internal records. Danielito has very clear career goals: his first choice is Systems Engineering, capitalizing on the impressive boom in artificial intelligence, and he chose Petroleum Engineering as his second choice. We want him to attend the Universidad de Oriente (UDO) because of its strong national reputation and its commitment to remaining free from political influence. As a good strategist, I have my Plans A, B, and C ready so that nothing catches us by surprise.

When I look at all this, I sometimes think about generational changes; these days, many modern moms prioritize their own individual goals above everything else. However, I consider myself an old-school mom—a traditional mom who is fully committed to her children’s achievements. I’m the one who’s always in the background, cheering them on, offering words of praise, scolding when necessary, and demanding excellence because I know what they’re capable of—but always standing firm to support and guide them every step of the way.
We’re officially in “college student mom mode,” and even though the red tape sometimes puts us to the test, our excitement outweighs any fatigue. I pray to God with great faith that this process will be resolved soon, that his placement will come through, and that we’ll see this great project—which belongs to the whole family—come to fruition. I’ll share more details on how this adventure is unfolding as soon as we have news. Until next time!
