Hello to all our friends in the Holos Lotus community—it’s such a pleasure to greet you in this beautiful space for connection and well-being! When we talk about mental health, we tend to think of meditation, self-care, or inspiring quotes, but the reality is that our surroundings and the situations we face can drastically affect our emotional stability. Sometimes we overlook the fact that a fragile mind in a hostile or disempowering environment is like a ticking time bomb that sooner or later takes its toll.
This profound reflection has been on my mind as I’ve analyzed high-profile cases like that of Lindsay Clancy, the mother who has been the subject of so much discussion following the tragic death of her children. When examining the details, one cannot help but question the timing, the attitudes of those around her, and how a fractured family or marital dynamic might have pushed a person to the very brink. Many are quick to point fingers and assign blame lightly, but the reality is that human beings are complex, and turbulent relationships often bring to light very dark aspects that others cannot even imagine.
However, it’s essential to clarify that depression and mental health disorders aren’t always related to a breakup or conflicts at home. In my own case, when I went through a depressive episode, the trigger was strictly work-related: a serious injustice in my workplace where those responsible for putting a stop to it turned a blind eye. I was overcome with a deep sense of helplessness, anger, and pain when I saw that the bosses who were supposed to protect me viewed me as a professional threat simply for upholding ethics and refusing to let them trample on my years of education.
When a work environment becomes so toxic that your efforts are no longer valued and people seek to belittle you or undermine your dignity, the blow is devastating. That pent-up outrage, combined with complex family situations, led me to a total emotional breakdown that unleashed that famous “gray cloud” everyone talks about. How did I manage to climb out of that dark hole? Of course, I sought help, but my main anchor was faith and constant prayer.
I firmly believe in spirituality; in those moments of vulnerability, dark energies try to make everything seem bleak, but I’ve always kept my feet on the ground, I value my life, and I know that self-discipline and God are real lifelines. Many people manage to break out of these cycles without ever seeing a psychologist—simply by maintaining a close relationship with God, identifying what’s affecting them, and setting new goals for themselves.
Sadly, today we watch with pain as many young people, over what seem like minor issues, end up committing terrible acts against their own lives. I understand that depression traps you in a bubble where you can’t see the light and you believe life is bad, but as long as we’re alive, there’s always hope—a reason to fight and keep moving forward. We also learn from pain, and maturity is a key factor in emerging from those shadows.
There is increasing talk of postpartum depression, and it is an overwhelming reality; the sense of collapse one feels is immense, which is why we need to reach out to these women and support them rather than immediately condemn them. But in cases as extreme as that of Lindsay Clancy, even if we understand that the perpetrator may also be a victim of mental illness and an unsympathetic environment, there is absolutely no justification for taking the lives of innocent children, who are the true victims in this story. The community bears a huge responsibility for prevention.
What I do find unacceptable is seeing how certain movements or groups—such as some people on social media who pose as activists—seize upon such sensitive issues to put on a show. I’ve seen deplorable cases of people recording themselves abusing children just to say, “I’m depressed and I support Lindsay Clancy.” That’s not mental health—it’s pure, premeditated malice and a desire to profit from sensationalism and controversy. We must be extremely careful not to trivialize human suffering.
I sincerely hope that everyone going through a period of mental darkness can see the light at the end of the tunnel, get better, and surround themselves with “positive people”—those who bring peace and help with healing. Let’s reflect responsibly on this whole mental health craze, protecting our well-being without falling into the trap of farce or normalizing the unjustifiable.
I’m Yelimarín, and until next time.
