My room has been under occupation for 3 weeks now.
Not by people. By goals.
It started with one notebook. "Write every day."
Then a course. "Finish this week."
Then a side hustle. "Post 3 times daily."
Then family. "Send something."
Then my own brain. "Why arenāt you further yet?"
Now my desk is a battlefield.
Laptop open. 12 tabs. To-do list on my wall. Bible on one side. Bills on the other.
Thereās no space to just sit.
I walk in and my room doesnāt feel like rest anymore.
It feels like work. Like pressure. Like "youāre not doing enough."
Last night I broke.
I cleared everything off my bed and laid there in the dark. No phone. No light.
And I asked myself: "Who gave all these things permission to live here with me?"
"Under occupation" doesnāt always look like tanks.
Sometimes it looks like ambition.
Sometimes it looks like love.
Sometimes it looks like you trying to be a good daughter, good worker, good Christian, good everything... all at once.
We donāt talk about this enough.
How success can occupy you.
How wanting better for yourself can turn your own space against you.
So I did one thing today.
I took one corner back.
Just one corner. I put one plant there. One book Iām reading for fun, not for "growth".
I sat there for 10 minutes and did nothing.
And you know what? The world didnāt end.
The goals didnāt leave. Theyāre still on the desk.
But now thereās also a space for me.
Maybe thatās the win.
What in your life is under occupation right now? Work, family, phone, your own expectations?
And whatās one small corner you can take back today?
Let me know. I need ideas too š
