Here's the piece that really started me on my journey as a freelance small press RPG artist. It was quite some time ago (almost 20 years now!) when I did this piece. I've always drawn or painted, but this was the one Where I really staked a claim to doing old school Dungeons and Dragons inspired art. It is a bit crude, that's partly by design and partly due to my skill level at the time. However, I learned a lot from this piece and it did garner a bit of attention in what would later be known as the Old School Renaissance/Revival (or whatever you want OSR to stand for - I like Renaissance myself). In fact, this piece is published in the Black Blade Publishing version of the OSRIC (Old School Reference Index and Compilation) rule set - the first of the clone systems for older versions of Dungeons and Dragons. I've done several hundred pieces of art since this piece, but I do like to go back and remember where it all started. Cheers and happy gaming!
