Hey aliens, hello again 🖤

It's been so long since I've posted art on my blog... I've been discouraged by how slow the Hive market is, even though the act of sharing still appeals to me, but sometimes I think: what can I share? I have many projects saved, many of them come from learning processes, creative exercises, sketches... even final professional projects.

But what to share on Hive? Today I was going through my files, and I thought I'd post this. It was an exercise I did in an illustration workshop. The objective was to listen to a music album (chosen by the professor). We had to transform that sensory and sonic experience into complete album artwork, a visual piece intended for the album's physical presentation.

It was a mixed media exercise: collage, drawing, painting, digital illustration, and design. It was very interesting, especially listening to a musical genre and artist I don't usually listen to, but whom I was able to appreciate musically. It was interesting to translate the messages, lyrics, and sounds into an artistic image, one that was also very different from the album's original artwork.

I encourage you to do this exercise, even if it's not exactly to create album artwork. You could, for example, create artwork for a song. What inspires the sounds, the lyrics, the poetry of an artist? It's an interesting exercise, translating music into images.

In my case, I opted for a somewhat minimalist and abstract aesthetic, using different materials. I couldn't say exactly why, but it was what I wanted to try based on my influences at the time, and I liked the result.

You can find the album on YouTube, 14 tracks. It's in Spanish, but you can also watch it with subtitles. It´s called Naturaleza Sangre.

* Fun fact, I haven't listened to these songs since I made the project... should I listen to them again?

And here's the process and result: The overall concept came from imagining a path leading to the sun, along with other elements related to the characters and feelings central to the lyrics. The heart and blood are key, which is why it's the main image, and warm, red tones are prominent. The textures reflect something about the marks that experiences leave on people, which is also a recurring theme in the lyrics.
