Good evening, my friends!

Here is my (1st) contribution to #FungiFriday by ewkaw@ewkaw

Today is a special day for me, and not so special for you... Ahahah I'll explain! Although I don't follow the activity and publications of this group as closely as I'd like, not infrequently when I find myself hiking, and more often in the countryside, the fungi that populate the green, damp carpets around the conifers offer those who pass them a magnificent transformation, from which these fantastic beings emerge, which in themselves constitute a Kingdom of living beings. Its importance is well known, and over the centuries, although it hasn't been as vivid as it was a few centuries ago, it possesses a unique magic, whether for its medicinal or even toxicological abilities!

In a small urban garden, called Jardim do Campo de 24 de Agosto, in the great city of Porto, as I was contemplating the reflections of an artificial lake, without being in the least concerned about the weather, my attention was drawn to a group of "dried leaves" that became much more than that... A group of eminences in the shape of globular, brightly coloured orange hats made me want to genuflect in order to capture their most interesting details, which from a distance of more than a metre are not at all observable.

The set of eminences, sprouting from a single point, with several delicate stems, and their perfect gills that opened symmetrically, almost as if drawn by ruler, by a "Major" Architect.

After my research, it seems that these specimens belong to the species Gymnopilus spectabilis. As I'm not a biologist, let alone a connoisseur of these peculiar beings, I'd like to ask the community to confirm the classification. I used a guide published in Portuguese about the most common species of fungi found in this region of the country (source).

I hope you enjoyed my humble first publication in your community!

Hugs to you all
