(coffee is always better with a friend)
I love coffee. I know other people that do, too. 
Normally I will enjoy my coffee straight up black; if I'm fetching it from Wawa I'll put a little hazelnut cream into it but, when at home, it's just black. During the Christmas season, however, I do also enjoy a good "Christmas coffee".
Christmas coffee is, typically, normal coffee with spices mixed in with it. It's a warm, comforting drink that evokes good memories and positive feelings. There are coffee blends available in super markets and grocery stores that are pre-mixed, but I find that making my own has just that little much more flavour.
Christmas Coffee Recipe
- 1 1/4 cup ground coffee
- 1 1/4 tbsp. brown sugar
- 1 1/2 tsp. ground cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp. ground cloves
- 1/4 tsp. ground cardamom
- 1/4 cup powered creamer (optional)
Directions
Place all ingredients into a sifter.
Sift.
Enjoy.

Place all ingredients into a bowl.
Mix.
Enjoy.
I prefer using a sifter to mix all the ingredients together so I know that I have as even a distribution as possible.
Adding creamer is an optional step. Though my every day cup of coffee is black, I find that when spiced having a small few drops of cream helps to remove the bite and enhance the flavour. Heavy cream is always welcome, but it almost always ends up going bad in the house since I am the only one who uses it, so I've found that adding a powdered cream right into the mix works just as well.
The cardamom can be easily replaced if it isn't available. There are two ways to provide a quick and easy replacement:
- Replace 1/4 tsp cardamom with 1/4 tsp cinnamon and 1/4 tsp ginger.
- Replace 1/4 tsp cardamom with 1/4 tsp cinnamon and 1/4 tsp nutmeg.
Your mileage might vary. The next batch I make might even include the ginger and nutmeg, because there just are no steadfast rules.
This coffee works extremely well in a French Press. It also works great in a Keurig with reusable pods (we're being environmentally friendly, right?) I have both, of course, but use the Keurig on a daily basis because it's fast and easy.
And we end up with a fantastic cup of coffee. Enjoy!
