As a minimalist, white would be a perfect and relatively sage colour to go with as there is this sense of peace and tranquillity that surrounds the colour white. Whenever I think of white, I think of purity but I beg to differ. This is because I love the vibrancy of colours.
I grew up in a 'house of art' where every corner had a distinct colour. Now that I think of it, it would have been a better option differentiating the rooms in our house by their colours. Something like "please go to the pink room and fetch my flip flops" or " please move to the light green room and start doing the dishes".
I may have mentioned this in one of my posts some time ago but to reiterate, my mom is an artist. I'm certain some people can tell that a person is an artist from just the interior decor. From the stories my siblings told me, my mom was in charge of the interior decor and my dad, the exterior. After listening to these stories, things made more sense. The exterior part of our home was white with a blue bottom layer but inside was and still is a burst of colours!
Growing up, there was this Korean series that usually aired by 7pm. By 6:40, I was already seated in position, waiting for the show. My favourite character from that movie was a rich lady who wore nothing but white. She lived in a big and exquisite white mansion. She never repeated clothes and thing were always white, from her head down to her heels! Honestly, I was in awe and I told myself "I want to be like this woman when I grow older".
Whenever I open my wardrobe, I remember the conversation my younger self had and I chuckle. I have only a handful of white garments–so much for being like the woman.
Sometime in the future when I get my house, I wouldn't want so many colours. I prefer a blend and commingle of colours. Shouty colours are totally out of the question as they have a way of getting me really nervous and uncomfortable.
It is a really lovely feeling when you get back from work, step into your abode and the beautiful colours on your wall liven your mood. Essentially, colours make me happy and having an array of them on my walls would make me a happy human being. Cool colours would always be my top priority.
One very beautiful wall painting I've seen is a very light and neutral colour with a splatter of so many colours on it. It is usually a very beautiful sight to behold.
Hence, I do not follow the trend and I will prefer to have an array of cool colours around. This doesn't mean that there wouldn't be white colours in my house, they definitely will be. As a nature lover, I would love to end with an amazing quote by Leigh Hunt that I resonate with;
Colors are the smiles of nature.
