Hello Creatives✨
I recently replicated a crochet piece for a client and couldn't bear the thought of not sharing it here on Hive.
A little backstory to this crochet piece
A first time client who was referred to me by a previous client came to me with a crochet granny square shirt design. He asked if I could replicate the design with a few adjustments and I said a big yes to this. Want to know how much I enjoyed making this lovely piece of art? Stick around to find out.

Consultation Process
Before starting on this piece, I had a proper consultation with my client so as to know what exactly he wanted. My client adores the colour red and asked that I make the entire back of the shirt red as opposed to the star motifs on the original design. He also made some tweaks to the length of the shirt.
After the consultation, I went to the yarn store and immediately started making this piece.
Procedure
To make this piece, I had to make a total of forty-eight regular but big sized granny squares. Big sized because making smaller granny squares wasn't going to help in achieving the pattern. This was a classic case of when life gives you lemons, made lemonades.
To make the granny square, I started off by making a magic circle and into the circle, I added four clusters each separated by a chain of three. This row is finished off with a slip stitch.
To build up the rest of the granny squares, I made a chain of three for every new row and worked a cluster only into the spaces available. For the corners, I made two clusters separated by a chain of two. I continued this for the single-coloured granny squares until I got nine rows in total.
For the granny squares with three colours, I pretty much followed the same pattern but I changed colours intermittently at the corners. Before making this pattern of granny square, I tried out the pattern on gauge swatches and after two trials, I got a hang of the pattern.
After making all the granny squares, it was time to couple them. This was a very technical part for me because I didn't use one method to couple all granny squares. However, I pretty much joined all the red squares at the back and the plain squares in front using single crochet stitches. For the star motifs and the rest of the shirt, I used the invisible seam method.
After coupling all parts of the shirt; the back panel, two front panels and sleeves, I made the button lines, the collar of the shirt and also added some finishing touches to the sleeves and the base of the shirt.
The buttons were the last things I added after steaming the shirt and this brought me to the end of the creation.
I made this shirt in under two weeks because it was an express order but I had fun while at it and would happily recreate it a million times if the need arises.
I enjoyed making every piece of this shirt. My favorite parts had to be the star motifs. I just loved how coupling them brought life to this piece.
What do you think of this crochet masterpiece? I'd love to know :)
