It started almost a month ago. A group with four of my close friends was created. The idea behind the group was to enable us to collectively plan a long overdue outing for ourselves. This seemed like a really pleasant idea plus, I would get to spend some time with my ladies.
Whenever it felt like we were finally getting headway, someone would come up with an excuse and we'd have to reschedule. At some point, it got really exhausting but we persisted, because that's what we do. Eventually, after a lot of back and forth, we landed on a date that actually stuck. All five of us agreed. But I should have known that after that much friction to get us in one place, it was somehow going to be ruined
We all agreed on a spot that seemed budget friendly. We checked for reviews online and got some decent reviews. The place looked very promising online. You know that feeling when you find a place and immediately think, "this is it. A place with low stakes, good vibes, nothing too expensive. We can just relax and enjoy each other's company without stressing about the bills." This was the energy going in and I want you to keep this in mind because this energy didn't survive the night.
On the agreed day, three of us arrived De Nosh Bistro at the same time. We got in, settled down and waited for the rest of us. Eventually, they arrived and we could begin our evening. The service person came to take our orders which we gave around 5:30pm. We asked how long the preparation of the meals were going to take and she said thirty to forty-five minutes. I found this to be the first red flag because why is a plate of fries and chicken taking so long to prepare. Little did I know.
To pass the time, we decided to take a few pictures and make some videos. Along the line, we began making conversations just to take our minds off the fact that we had been waiting for over an hour and the meals hadn't yet arrived.
I guess the most annoying part for me was that our drinks were brought to us almost immediately and we had started gulping them down, thinking the food was going to arrive soon.
About two hours later, one meal was brought for one of us. Then about thirty minutes later, my meal arrived. We had to wait for another twenty minutes for every other person to be served before we all started eating.
The second red flag was the fact that these meals were brought so late and we still had to eat in darkness. One of us had requested that some form of light be turned on but the service person just nodded and only returned when it was time to give the bill.
When we all started eating, it was like the kitchen decided to taste our patience once more that night. I ordered a plate of pasta with meatballs. My pasta was really soggy and the meatballs were salty. My ladies had a taste of my food and they all agreed that it was a disaster. Another of us got a plate of food that was too spicy and the others complained of cold food. After waiting for over two hours, we couldn't even get our money's worth. Five plates, five disappointments.
I want to give this place a rating and I'm not going to be generous about it because generosity isn't what this experience earned. I'm giving it a four out of ten, and the only reason why I'm not going lower is because the actual setup, the seats, the general layout of the place weren't half bad.
But here goes some fairness. The food was bad, the wait was ridiculous, the night ambience was a let down but this outing wasn't a complete waste of time. Underneath all the shortcomings, I was still sitting with four ladies I adore, who kept the conversation alive even when the restaurant itself seemed to be working against us. This was the really good part of the evening.
Be that as it may, I don't think I'll be willing to go back to this place and trust me to relate my honest experience if a friend considers going there too.
