Ahhh! Lola groaned as she banged the door behind her and headed nowhere in particular. Any other place was better than being in the same house with her mother at the moment. Her mother kept getting on her last nerve each and every time. It felt like they were always arguing.
“Lola, you're not good enough. I regret giving birth to you. Why are you still living in my house when you're supposed to be married?” were the words that came out of her mothers mouth each time they tried to have a peaceful conversation.
“I just turned nineteen for crying out loud! Where am I supposed to live? How am I not good enough?” lola thought out loud as she kept marching along the road of the city.
The city was developed and it always had lots of traffic. Cars passing, people chattering, children crying, loud music and every other thing! Lola was really upset but had no one to vent her anger on,
She had lived all her life without a friend because her mother saw friends as a distraction. Lola always wanted to please her mother and without thinking twice she dismissed all her friends. She had always been making decisions based on her mothers feelings but it was high time she made decisions for herself. She was now an adult for crying out loud!
The city wasn't helping matters so she wandered into the woods. There was a no trespassing sign at the entrance to the woods but she didn't mind. Government was probably trying to build something, she assumed.
The woods was very serene and quiet. It was the perfect place for her to think about her life. Lola broke a thin tree branch and kept working slowly. She used the tree branch to trail her steps. For each step she took, she dropped a branch as a sign.
She kept reminiscing on how her life had been right from the day she was able to distinguish good from bad. Her mother had totally been against her. This was because lola reminded her mother of her father. Lola looked and acted just like her father even though she wasn't born to see him.
Her father ran away the day she was born, leaving her mother to take care of her alone. This anger kept burning in her mothers heart. She blamed Lola for her husband's disappearance. If lola wasn't born, he wouldn't have run away and she would have been living a perfect life with her husband.
“Why would she even conceive me if they were not easy to have a child?” lola thought as she kept walking.
Something caught her attention, a house. The house looked very ancient. Who would be living in the woods in times like this? She walked closer to inquire and also clear her doubt.
Curiosity clogged her eyes as she approached the house.
Smoke was escaping from the chimney which clearly meant that someone lived there. Her curiosity grew even more.
“I'd love to really see who lives here”. Was the person also tired of civilization like she was?
She went closer to the door and heard voices. People were communicating in low tones. Lola gently pushed the door open but the door was really old and it cricked all the way through.
“We are down by one human sacrifice” a stern looking man said to the rest of the people.
They were gathered in a circle with candles, blood and strange looking inscription on their bodies. They all looked in lolas direction as the door had already announced her presence.
It was at that moment that lola`s life came flashing. If she died that day, no one would notice because she literally had no one. It was her battle to fight. It was her against those strange looking people.
She immediately closed the door and took to her heels. The strangers were after her and she kept running to nowhere in particular. She just knew she had to run for her life…….
With love, wongi.
