My father says life comes at your face, and we all have to face the music, not like we have a lot of choices. Mr. Howard, my dad, is a philosophy teacher. Mrs. Howard, my mom, died in a car accident a few years ago on her way back from our holiday in California. Wondering why she died and my dad and I survived? Well, we were all supposed to return as a family. We booked our plane tickets and we were ready to move the next day after a fun-filled Chris as holiday, but she cancelled at the last minute saying that her boss wanted her to come over to Dubai to finalize a business deal and so, she won't be travelling with us. Mom was all about work and when she made the announcement I was sad but not heartbroken because it wasn't the first time and neither would it be the last time, I thought. Dad tried to convince her to at least come home first before she went on the trip, but mom being the unyielding and determined person that she was still went on the journey. She arrived safely at Dubai, but her plane crashed on her way back home. That was very tragic and terrifying. As the kid I was at that time, I didn't take that story well. Losing my mom was not exactly what I wanted at that point in time. I was yearning for motherly care and affection but I got none. So from that time, it has just been my dad and I. He was the best dad in the world. He was my dad, my mom, my companion, my friend, all in all. I couldn't be more grateful that he was my dad. The loss of my mom had affected him gravely and as the only child he had, he never met me out of his sight. He wasn't exactly possessive, but just didn't want any form of harm to come my way and there came Jack. Jack lived on the next street. He was a maniac and no one knew.
Jack was extremely obsessed with me. I didn't see it as an obsession because behind the whole obsession, he was a nice person person to be around. My dad didn't like him around me, father instinct and all. I saw it as him just being his regular protective self and so I just flushed all the advice he gave me down the drains. I started hanging out with jack a whole lot. We got into a relationship and it was fun. I hadn't really been into relationships so I could say Jack was my second boyfriend. My first boyfriend was a sweetheart but he dumped me for a 'hotter' girl, lust. My relationship with jack was nice while it lasted not until he started exhibiting some characters that were totally uncalled for. He didn't like me around boys or girls. If 'overprotective' were a person it would be him. One day, I was standing with my lost long uncle and were just catching up. He took me to a nearby shop to get me lunch since I was starving and sat there and continued our conversation. Jack came out of nowhere and started beating up my uncle. He threw several punches before I could scream that the man was my uncle. Tears rolled down my eyes. 'What have you done jack! You just freaking assaulted my uncle publicly!' He stormed out of the shop while I tried to tend to my uncle. Fortunately, he wasn't hurt, no bones were broken.
'Was that your boyfriend?' My uncle asked.
I nodded in shame and remorse
'He punches like a lady' that made me smile. ' I hope he has never laid a finger on you because that's when I'd get angry' my uncle sounded stern. I shook my head ' no uncle, he hasn't' I lied. Jack had beaten me up several times but today was the apex of it all. Why would he do that to my uncle? My uncle dropped me off at home, came in and had a few drinks with my dad before he departed. I went to my room and called Jack. He answered his call
'I'm ending things with you Jack, our relationship has been toxic so far and that is not good so, I'd like it if you see things from my angle and just accept it, not like you have a choice'. I could feel him fumming from the phone 'You think you can just end things with me! You can't get rid of me'. He hung up. I couldn't get rid of him? It sounds to me like I just got rid of him. Jack was just unpredictable and one couldn't know his next move. I lived in constant fear.
