A quiet settled into the cozy valley, occasionally broken by the chatter of birds. In a little campsite along the stream, Randy sat watching the flitterings of robins against the twilight hues that painted the sky. He could see a large swath of sky between the trees, and anxiously awaited the arrival of stars.
"Carefull with that, Honey.” Randy looked over to see Debra grasp the pointy stick their daughter had been waving about. She pulled the little girl onto her lap near the firepit, and showed her how to roast a marshmallow. The fire was small but still going strong after cooking their meal, and Randy delighted in the warm atmosphere.
A heavy crack from the darkening forest disturbed that. A silent unease grew within him when it sounded again.
Randy glanced in the direction of the sound and out from the darkness of the trees, came a tiny leprechaun carrying a dragon. Debra held her child tight, as her marshmallow stick fell into the fire. "Might you have some Lucky Charms per chance, my dragon is starving?" said the tiny little fellow. Randy looked through the picnic basket and pulled out the bag of marshmallows, "No, but I still have some of these!" "My name's Patrick and this is Sparky, might we have a few." "Of course you can, take them all." Debra replied with a nervous smile. Patrick laid Sparky by the fire and in one smooth stroke grabbed the bag of marshmallows and had them on a stick, similar to the manipulation of a card trick by a magician. Patrick moved towards the fire as if he was going to hover the marshmallows over it, but instead he placed the skewer in front of Sparkys' mouth and out came a flame two feet long. Patrick shrugged his shoulders and said, "it will be longer when he grows up!" Randy retorted, "That's what she said!" They all laughed together. And with a poof, they both disappeared and in their place were two gold coins. Randy grabbed the two gold coins, Debra and the kid, then ran to the car! Randy turned to Debra as he was rounding the corner and said, "Fuck the stars, we have gold!"
