Thanks to vaynard86@vaynard86, I recently discovered a community of freewriters here on Hive, led by mariannewest@mariannewest. Freewriting is something I haven't done in decades. Today they celebrated an amazing milestone: 2000 days of 5-minute freewrite posts! So I decided to join them. I don't know how often I'll participate, but I do think it'd be good to do some writing without overthinking it once in a while. Today's topic is No Feeling. Let's see where this goes...

It started with no feeling. Not bad. Just not much either way.

Well, maybe not zero feeling, but little enough. I liked the guy, I guess; he was smart, witty, and made good conversation. We had a few things in common, and both loved Mexican food. So it was a start.

But really? If it had ended after that first date, I wouldn’t have thought much about him after. No feelings about it at all.

It didn’t, though. Even if it wasn’t feeling that kept us both coming back, there was something there. We also happened to have our first date right before the beginning of the pandemic lockdown. A time when everyone was clinging to those they felt even a little connection to, because people were dying all around. That probably had something to do with it.

Bonus for us: we both worked from home, and had few other social contacts, so we were “safe” for each other. Much less chance of catching the ‘Rona than dating folks who worked out in the open world.

So we continued getting together, mostly picking up takeout each week, and eating at his place, followed by fun and movies. And what started out with almost no feeling at all, blossomed into a three-year relationship with no end in sight. Not bad. Not bad at all.
