What Would You Pay to Be Debt Free?

After I went through this prompt and read it, the first thing that struck my mind was something simple: not having a debt sounds extremely good until we are being told what such freedom will cost us.

There are student loans everywhere now; just think about you taking one because you cannot afford to solo pay for your school fees and all without it. After you are done with school, you begin moving from one place to another to secure a job, and before you even have everything figured out in your life, there is debt waiting for you. Then there is also interest in climbing it, and having to repay such a student loan becomes something you have to think about all day long.

For anyone in such a debt position, clearing that debt is going to be a huge burden of weight that might be hard to remove. And have ones debts taken away is going to be like that burden has been taken away, there will be less thinking about how long left to balance up. No more interest increase and how to cover up for that. And what you are earning can finally be used to do something else.

But then, the government throws in another deal. After taking a student loan, the loan will be cleared but at the expense of the money coming from somewhere else. And that is increasing taxes, so everyone will have to pay, which includes those who never took the student loan or plan to take it.

That is a change of direction to the question I guess which has left me with the question if I still want my student loan debt cleared if I am family with the person working beside me, who is older, out of school, did not plan to take the students loan, and the person will be included in paying more taxes than before because of it?

I know a lot of people who have large student loans to pay for will accept the new deal immediately. Because it is a free financial burden for them, and having such an offer could redirect the course of what they will use their income for eventually. I can understand that at the same time and also understand why someone who does not plan to take the loan will question such decisions on why they should be involved in something they did not do or debt partake in.

And there might be something more striking and worrisome about involving those who are already struggling financially to start paying more taxes. A person who has never stepped into a university or walked through its front door might be wondering why their sacrifice should now come attached to another bill.

So the question is not simply whether clearing student loans is good. It also involves considering who should be involved with the cost. Debt is not easy to take away, it can be on someone's neck for a long time, but giving such burden to others to share from it does not make the cost to vanish. It only changes the appearance and involves those who do not know anything about it. And perhaps that is something I cannot do, though it sounds good, but at the expense of putting others at risk.
