"What are you talking about? It is Independence Day! Of course, we all celebrate." Megan screamed.
Mary and Thelma stared at each other. They wanted to say something but didn't. Megan noticed.
"What?"
"Say something guys " Megan added.
"It's Nothing" Mary replied.
There was an awkward silence.
Megan couldn't comprehend how are two best friends of 15 years would be hiding something from her. Did she do something wrong?
Now she was staring at them waiting for one of them to say something.
"Megan, we love you and it's not like we don't like having a good time but your life is different from ours."
"You're a kept woman. You don't worry about finance, Your husband is rich so you don't have anything to worry about."
"We think that's why you are always open to spending on every little thing."
"But we can't, we have things to deal with at home and we would rather use money for other things than plan an independence party!" Thelma said.
"And I don't see why I should be celebrating independence when I might become homeless soon. If I don't close a deal soon, the bank is gonna take the house." Mary added, her eyes now steamy.
"ooh, I'm sorry." Meghan murmured.
Another awkward silence.
"Fleas lay eggs at an amazing rate" Thelma said, trying to change the conversation.
But she realized that wasn't a good topic.
"Are they in your house?" Mary asked sincerely.
"Oh no o..."
Megan had move towards the kitchen, she's getting a drink for herself and also trying to hide her tears.
They had made her feel bad.
"I am not Sorry!" Megan murmured, scooping a chocolate ice cream from the jar as she took her sit.
"What?" Thelma and Mary asked
"I said I am not sorry!" She screamed
"I won't let you guys make me feel bad for nothing."
"We are best friends and you didn't tell me things were bad but decided to make me look like a fool!" Megan cried uncontrollably.
Thelma and Mary moved closer, begging her to stop crying.
They apologized and tried to calm her.
They wiped a smear of chocolate on her face and they laughed about it.
They took turns talking about what had been going on, as they all scoop from the bowl of ice-cream.
Time went fast
Megan woke up late in the night, they all fell asleep talking. She got a duvet to cover them and smiled.
They didn't need to have a party. Being with them was enough. And Everything will be okay.
