My preparations for the Cardiff half marathon really do need to start kicking it up a gear if I want to stand any chance of breaking through that 2hour barrier. My current P.B. for the course is 2:03:04.... No I didn't plan that time!
To make it under the 2hour mark, my moving time per mile needs to average out to be 9min10sec per mile (13.1X 9.15 = 119.865 minutes)
While this is easily done for me over the shorter distances, up to 5 mile, at this moment in time I struggle to maintain that pace any further. Luckily there is still 5 month left and not only will I start upping my distances, but the frequency should also increase.
FYI - I work hard at being over weight! I over indulge at every opportunity and enjoy it.... So this regular exercise should have a 2 fold effect. Not only will this increase my ability to run longer disrances, but it should help me to lose some of this extra padding. Then hopefully by losing this body fat, it should help me run faster.
Well that's the plan anyway!!!!
These are my times for the past few runs. Friday, Monday and yesterday.
Im finding the 3 mile runs very comfortable and easy to maintain that pace. Unfortunately I only have a 30min lunch break, so I'm limited to the distances I can cover during the working week. I'm thinking of switching the runs to after work where I can get a solid hour in before having to go pick up 1/2pint from nursery.
We are experiencing an unusual little heat wave and being a gentleman of a certain stature in this heat means having to drink plenty of water
Im back out again today, so will have more to share with you next week.
Any advice and tips are always greatly appreciated.
