Ooooh! Why is today so exciting? It's our first day after 3 week complete lockdown in a hostel. We went for a walk, long walk! Our mission was to go find some fresh fish, to be exact, salmon! We crave Japanese food even though the whole lockdown, I have been ordering sushi for deliveries like I was out of my mind.

So here we go Salmon hunting!

First of all, Gang members for the day:

  • Kaori from Japan - The our cutting hand for en epic sashimi meal
  • Tobias from Germany- The Salmon carrier from market back to home sweet home
  • Chris from England - Got grossed out by the fish that was not on the ice
  • Mo from Thailand - Wash dishes after the meal (Very important one)

Making our way to a fish market

I'm staying in Valparaiso, Chile and it's just right off the coast so, seafood everywhere! Anyways, we looked beyond the market and instead, we headed to a fish market at the end of the city. We walked 1 hour there and 1 our back so let me tell you, it's quite an adventurous walk!

We stopped at the local market first. There are still a lot of people walking on the street and I was already excited to see. We haven't actually seen this many people for the 3 entire weeks. Can you imagine? Most of them though wore masks. Kaori and I got our own masks as you know, even there's no covid-19, Asians still wear mask every single day #lol

Chris didn't get one but he pretended he did. Tobias got one at a pharmacy where we found the most epic mask of all time. My mind blown.

Chilean-style hand-roll sushi before the epic salmon night

Instead of buying masks, Kaori and I got some rolls as a warm up for the big salmon meal tonight. It's a mixture of Chilean and Japanese. For some reason, most of the sushi and Japanese kind of rolls, they Chileans love to deep fry their rolls! At first I was like 'What the h** was this?'. After a few week, when I crave sushi, I always imagine it deep-fried.

The epic sea-side walk

We at some point could get so close to the ocean and there's even a boardwalk all along. It was a nice chill walk. Sea on the left and all the graffiti everywhere. It's a colorful walk! Even there's not much of sun, there's still pretty nice after a few weeks living in the exact same place for the entire time.

My new friend! Let me introduce you to 'Negra' no no, not nigga #lol I met him along the way and tried to tell him when exactly should he cross the road. Kaori told me, because I talked to him, that's why he followed us for the whole entire time to the fish market. Well, is that actually how it works with dogs?

Salmon here we go!

We finally got to Fish Market "Pacho Y Nieve Stand". There's also a fisherman wharf there and seems like they are working as usual. There are a few funny looking seafood that I would love to try but for the reason that it's not actually on ice, I'm not too sure if that's safe to eat. Though, we bought the salmon sold on the same condition, how ironic.

The whole salmon were cut freshly there and some places actually have them frozen. We of course went for the fresh one. 1.3kg for 3 people.(Chris chickened out from the selling condition and I totally get it) That's going to be a hella meal! 12000CLP or roughly $12 for the whole thing like #OMG.

Chill Chilean ceviche!

At Fish Market "Pacho Y Nieve Stand", we found some locals were eating a small cup of something and it seems just delicious. We couldn't help but asked what it then went and grabbed ourselves some! A small cup of chill ceviche (1500CLP or $2) made of fresh raw white fish. Love it! It's flavourful and so refreshing. I added some more chili flakes myself too so oh my oh my yummiyum!

Home-cut sashimi!!!

This is the most exciting moment of the day. No any other seafood from today would beat this! Our dinner, the big chunk of Salmon was cut by our Japanese friend, Kaori. Bit by bit, thin slices one by one till we got the whole entire plate full of Salmon.

I was actually skeptical a bit at first if it would actually be fresh, let me tell you, it is!!!! I love the texture. I think this is even better than the ones we have been ordering during quarantine. Also, those are pricey like, really compared to this.

So fresh, so yum and so affordable. I would totally do this again. Maybe even sooner than I think I would!
