Salted eggs everywhere!
Since I was a kid, salted eggs are actually something I have been used to as it's just one of the normal kind of food we have here in Thailand. Mostly, we have those with rice, congee, rice soup - Asian style, you know. I hadn't really seen people use them as a flavour though.
A salted duck egg is a Chinese preserved food product made by soaking duck eggs in brine, or packing each egg in damp, salted charcoal. In Asian supermarkets, these eggs are sometimes sold covered in a thick layer of salted charcoal paste.
Lately, it's been such a trend here in Thailand. Salted egg flavoured snack! Not sure where it all comes from but I heard, somewhere Singapore/Malaysia. The most popular one I have seen so far is crispy salmon skin with salted egg flavour.
Just right there at a shelf I was looking at, 4-5 different brands. All salted eggsssss!! CRAZYYY!
How does that sound to some of you?
Sounds yum to me! and hey, I got one myself the other day. I somehow went for the brand called Kari Kari just because the package was cutest and the name sounds the same way :D - That's how I roll.
Here's the look of the snack!
It's real crispy and flavourful. Very addictive I would say. Not sure if it would suit someone who doesn't love fat so much. I do not mind so I finish those 90 grams in no time.
Funny enough, I came back home yesterday and I saw something pretty similar..
Another brand from Singapore, its origin, Irvins
My dad and step mom just got back from the country and that's why. This one, actually even more delicious and yes, as it's mentioned on the bag 'Dangerously addictive!'
I know in some countries, you guys don't even bother eating fish skin. Some of you haven't heard of something called 'Salted eggs'. Well, in this part of the world where I am, we're going all crazy for this stuffs.
Would you give it a go?
