Hi Everyone 👋

We’ve had some busy days at home with the new pup keeping us on our toes. Our puppy Taro is only 8 weeks old and he needs to be trained from the very beginning. We are glad that we have the time to train him now while we are home daily in isolation due to the covid19. He’s very playful and has been very active now that he’s settling in with us. So how are things progressing?

  1. Potty Training: We have been making sure that we let him out for toilet breaks every 1-2 hours. It’s a great way to get us away from what we spend long hours on as well for some fresh air. The first two nights with him, I felt like he was an angel. He did his business on the training pad with no problems at all. We praised him for it. Yesterday however we felt like he was being very naughty all day and it was hard to contain him. He even did his business off the training pad 🤦‍♀️

  2. Tricks and commands: He’s still getting used to his name and so it’s on and off where he’d respond at the moment when we call him. We did however manage to teach him how to sit when asked to and that’s been working out well. It’s been two consecutive days with this training and he still remembers each time.

3.Essential puppy needs: Bought some treats, his first harness and leash and a chewing toy the other day to assist in training him. He loves the Kong toy very much and it keeps him occupied for some time when we need to do our own things. It’s also good for when he’s teething and needs to chew on something. You can also stuff the Kong with treat and and dogs will just try to chew and lick to get the treat.

I also couldn’t resist getting him this jacket from the pet store today. It would be perfect for cold winter days. It’s a bit big on him but he will grow into it in no time.

4.Sleeping alone: he’s being trained to sleep in the laundry where we put his bed. He’s been really good and doesn’t mind sleeping alone at all. We have heard stories of puppies crying at night or in the mornings but he’s totally fine with it.

5.First bath: We bathed him in the laundry sink so there’s not a big space for him to run and splash. Felt like we had more control as well. I think he hated it but he needs to get used to it. He definitely hated the blow dry part as he kept wanting to hide under our arms. Gotta work on it and learn how to make it “fun” and enjoyable as we read online...

We are so thankful that he’s been pretty easy to manage so far. Some things we still need to work on and learn how to manage and it does take a lot of patience as he’s still very young. Have you raised a puppy or a dog before? If you have some tips, we’d love to hear it.
