1945, War-torn Japan. A teenager is carrying his dead brother on his back to bury him. An army officer notices this and tells the teenager, "Throw the body off your back, it's too heavy." The teenager immediately responds firmly, "He's not heavy, he's my brother!" It takes the army officer a moment to understand the incident. Then, realizing the whole situation, he bursts into tears. The incident instantly spreads throughout Japan. Since then, the image has become a symbol of the country's unity. The teenager's statement of carrying his brother on his back has become their national slogan: "He's not a burden, he's my brother/sister." (He's not a burden, he's my brother/sister.)

If your brother or sister falls, pick him up. If he can't, if he's weak, stand by him. And if he makes a mistake, forgive him. If the world abandons him, you pick him up on your back. Because he is not a burden, he is your brother/sister.
