Cheraman Perumal Mosque. The first mosque in India. The only mosque during the time of the Holy Prophet (PBUH). Let me tell you the story, a king of Kerala, King Cheraman Perumal, saw one day in a dream or in reality that the moon in the sky was split in two. He could not find an explanation for this incident anywhere. At that time, Arab merchants used to come to India to trade spices. He heard about Islam from them, and also heard the famous incident of the moon splitting in two. Then King Cheraman Perumal went to Arabia. There he converted to Islam from the Prophet (PBUH). He took the name 'Tajuddin'. Later, on his way back to India, he died at sea. Before his death, he requested his caravan to return to his kingdom and build a mosque. Later, his companions built that mosque in 629 AD. Although it has undergone several renovations, the main part is still intact, its architectural style looks like an old temple or a house in Kerala, completely different from Arab architecture, the only mosque in the world.
