This is a small one today because I may be running out of steam with this writing stuff...
Cloud 9.5 on the Richter scale and looking like a magnitude earthquake with a hairdo from Canada was standing in a darkened shop doorway after hours and waiting for a passer-by to take home.
Slinking down the street noiselessly was The Thing from the mine that had nineteen arms and was black with coal dust and almost impossible to be seen in the dark.
Cloud 9.5 held her breath as The Thing passed her and made its way into the heart of the village.
As soon as she felt it was safe she ran to the church and threw stones at the brass bell to warn the villagers and in no time at all the shotgun brigade all carrying pitchforks surrounded her demanding answers and was she drunk.
“I’ve seen The Thing,” she gasped in the centre of the pressing throng that were getting in a quick feel for free.
“Lovely,” they said and swallowed her whole and down she went into the belly of The Thing that had fooled her.
The next day a new search party was formed in the pub and by nightfall they were all drunk as lords; so the committee run by Dai chips and calling themselves fine sounding names joined the search party in the pub and raised a cheer to 9.5 who would be sorely missed.
An order was passed before they all fell over that no one could go out after dark; so the doors were closed and the drinking began in earnest; and from that night onwards The Thing was used to frighten children into being obedient.
