On my way to my sister-in-law's house, I had to walk up through a rocky area, and there, growing almost where it seemed impossible for a tree to take root, I found this Bursera simaruba.
What caught my attention was not only the tree itself, but the place where it had managed to grow. Its trunk emerged among the rocks, with very little visible space around it. Looking at it, I could not help thinking about how nature finds a way to continue, even in places that seem completely unsuitable for life.
The Palo mulato is a characteristic tree of tropical America, but seeing one growing in this particular environment made the observation much more meaningful to me. It was a simple encounter on the way to visit family, yet it became an opportunity to stop and appreciate the resilience of a plant that had found its own way through the rocks.
I recorded the observation on iNaturalist, where I initially uploaded three photographs. For this post, however, I decided to share five images, including some that show the trunk and the surrounding rocks, because they help tell the complete story of where this tree is growing.
Nature does not always need ideal conditions. Sometimes, it simply finds a small space and takes advantage of it.

Camino a casa de mi cuñada tuve que subir por un terreno rocoso y allí encontré este ejemplar de Bursera simaruba, creciendo casi en un lugar donde parecería imposible que un árbol pudiera echar raíces.
Lo que llamó mi atención no fue solamente el árbol, sino el sitio donde había conseguido crecer. Su tronco emergía entre las rocas, con muy poco espacio visible a su alrededor. Al observarlo, no pude evitar pensar en esa capacidad que tiene la naturaleza de continuar adelante incluso en lugares que parecen completamente inadecuados para la vida.
El Palo mulato es un árbol característico de las regiones tropicales de América, pero encontrar uno creciendo en este entorno particular hizo que la observación tuviera para mí un significado diferente. Era simplemente un encuentro durante el camino para visitar a la familia, pero terminó convirtiéndose en una oportunidad para detenerme y apreciar la resistencia de una planta que había encontrado su propio camino entre las rocas.
Registré la observación en iNaturalist, donde inicialmente publiqué tres fotografías.
