The ninja star-shaped ceiling light: a household find[Eng-Spn]

Greetings, fellow nature lovers! I’m back again, full of curiosity and hungry for knowledge 😃 about this fascinating world around us.

Today—Saturday—was laundry day. I took advantage of the fact that the power was back on and there was running water; it was the perfect moment 💯 to tackle household chores.

While doing the laundry, I noticed a whole ecosystem of spiderwebs on the wall facing the washbasin—right by the concrete wash-tub. I love having them there; several spiders live their lives in that spot—it’s like a city—and it’s a pleasure for me to have them around.

I took a few photos, though capturing them was a bit tricky—not because the spiders were moving, but because my phone camera isn't really suited for macro photography (or perhaps I simply don't know how to do it). Nevertheless, I managed to get some shots with my Redmi Note 13 and my daughter's iPhone. The iPhone didn't capture the details perfectly either, but the images turned out acceptably well.

I need a better device to capture beautiful images—and to be able to show them off here on Hive, hehe. Once I managed to capture photos of my spider companions and neighbors, I immediately went to the iNaturalist app to look up information about this spider and the strange formations around it; what I discovered was amazing. Truly amazing.

Upon checking the observation on iNaturalist, I discovered that it is a Zosis geniculata, popularly known as the ceiling ninja star spider. The most fascinating thing about this species from the Uloboridae family is that it possesses no venom; it catches its prey by entangling them in a special silk with a cotton-like texture. Furthermore, its egg sacs have a striking star-like shape, very similar to the image I managed to capture. In the image on the right—which does not belong to me—we can see the star-shaped egg sac more clearly.

I am very excited to discover things I was unaware of until recently; it is a beautiful experience, and I feel like a true explorer of the natural world. I also feel the importance of caring for the species that live right near us, and the best way to protect them is to get to know them—to understand their ways of life so we can conserve them effectively.

Saludos amigos amantes de la naturaleza, estoy por aquí una vez más, llena de curiosidad y con hambre de conocimiento 😃 de este fascinante mundo que nos rodea.

Hoy sábado tocó día de lavar la ropa, aproveché que había llegado la electricidad y había agua, era el momento perfecto 💯 para hacer los quehaceres del hogar.

Mientras lavaba ví en la pared que da hacia el lavadero justo donde está la batea todo un ecosistema de telarañas, me encanta tenerlas allí, son varias arañas que hacen su vida allí es como una ciudad y para mí es un placer tenerlas conmigo.

Le tomé algunas fotografías, aunque se me hizo un poco difícil capturarlas no porque se movieron sino porque la cámara de mi celular no es apta para tomar fotos macros o simplemente yo no sé hacerlo, sin embargo; logré capturar algunas tomas con mi celular Redmi note 13 y con el celular de mi hija un iPhone, este tampoco capturaba del todo bien, pero las imágenes salieron aceptables.

Necesito un mejor aparato para capturar hermosas imágenes. Y poder presumir de ellas aquí en Hive, jejje. Una vez que logré capturar las imágenes de mis compañeras y vecinas arañas, inmediatamente me fui a la app de Inaturalist y busqué información de esta araña y las extrañas formaciones a su alrededor y lo que descubrí fue asombroso. Sumamente asombroso.

Al consultar la observación en iNaturalist, descubrí que se trata de una Zosis geniculata, popularmente llamada araña estrella ninja del techo. Lo más fascinante de esta especie de la familia Uloboridae es que no posee veneno; atrapa a sus presas enredándolas en una seda especial con textura algodonosa. Además, sus sacos de huevos tienen una llamativa forma estrellada, algo muy parecido a la imagen que logré capturar. En la imagen de la derecha y que no es de mi propiedad podemos distinguir mejor el saco de huevos en forma estrellada.

Estoy muy emocionada por descubrir cosas que hasta hace poco desconocía, es una experiencia muy hermosa, me siento toda una exploradora del mundo natural. Además siento la importancia de cuidar esas especies que habitan muy cerca de nosotros y lo mejor para cuidarlas es conocerlas, saber sobre sus formas de vida para poder conservarlas de la mejor manera.
