Hello freewriters, welcome to another episode of A Picture is Worth A Thousand Words. Today's prompt seems to bring many memories to mind, but even as I stare at the above picture with the gold coin and the inscriptions on it, the great name "Caesar" comes to mind.
Once upon a time in ancient Rome, there lived a wealthy merchant named Lucius. Lucius was a proud man who had amassed a great fortune through his various business ventures. He was well respected in the community and had made a name for himself as a shrewd businessman.
One day, Lucius received a letter from the Roman Emperor requesting a portion of his wealth as taxes. Lucius was outraged by his request and refused to comply, claiming that he had already paid enough in taxes.
“I will not give a single coin to Caesar!” Lucius exclaimed to his close friend, Marcus. “I have worked hard for my wealth, and I will not let the emperor take what rightfully belongs to me.”
But Marcus, a wise and devout man, reminded Lucius of a famous saying of Jesus Christ: “Give to Caesar what belongs to Caesar, and to God what belongs to God.”
“You must remember that as a citizen of Rome, it is your duty to pay your taxes,” Marcus said gently. “It is not only a legal obligation but a moral one as well.”
Lucius was hesitant at first, but after much reflection, he realized that Marcus was right. He went to the Emperor and paid his taxes in full, even offering to donate additional funds to the Roman Empire.
The Emperor was pleased with Lucius’ compliance and rewarded him with a prestigious title and additional privileges within the city.
Lucius learned a valuable lesson that day about the importance of fulfilling one’s obligations as a citizen and the rewards that come with doing so.
“I have come to understand that giving to Caesar what belongs to Caesar is not only a moral duty but a wise decision,” Lucius said to Marcus later. “I have gained much more than I have lost by following the law and fulfilling my obligations.”
