My Wednesday walk today takes me to the Baba Stana hamlet.
The hamlet is located in the Troyan Balkan mountains, about 2 km from the village of Oreshak, near the Troyan Monastery.
Nestled in the forest, the place is accessible via a paved road.
A chapel dedicated to the "Holy Mother of God – Life-Giving Spring" stands in the center.
The old schoolhouse has been restored by an Englishman named John Brisby, who also restored many of the houses.
I learned from locals that children's camps are held here during the summer.
The houses in the hamlet feature Bulgarian National Revival-style architecture.
Each house has its own unique history and atmosphere.
The yards are neat and well-maintained.
The neighborhood takes its name from a legend about the widow Stana, who—during the period of Ottoman rule in the 16th and 17th centuries—fled to the area above the village of Oreshak and settled in the mountains with her twelve children.

Fruit trees abound everywhere, though blue plum trees predominate.
Thank you for stopping by!
