The title of this post can mean two things, prog time (like in @slobberchops musical taste ;) ) as in listening to some good prog music or, programming time as in progamming a web-application. I decided to do both :) Programming a web-application while listening to some good old DreamTheater.
For me the best concert even by DreamTheater
A good friend of my took over a fitness centre in our hometown. He used to work their, the old owner wanted to stop with the centre so my friend took the oppertunity and bought the place. It is a so called 'low budget' fitness centre, which means that people can actually sport there for a minimum price. The trend in Holland is that fitness centres almost seem to be a complete beauty salon with tanning bed, sauna and free drinks. For me personally way to much hassle, I just want to fitness, nothing more and nothing less.
When I heard he was planning to took over the place I was thrilled for him, something like that was already a dream for years for him. While talking to him he asked me if I knew some good program's for his member-administration because the old system wasn't updated by the software vendor since 2015 and for him it is too expensive (at the moment) to buy a totally new system..
I thought a bit about it and suggested to him that I wanted to build a system for him at no cost, just because he is my good friend :). Some years ago I builded a system for a childeren's daycare in ASP.net. It was quite some time since I programmed a web-app, but I sure still knew the wropes. So we agreed to build a custom system for his gym, I did said to him that I wanted to build it in my spare time because something like that takes some time and that I started building the must-haves first and the should-haves later on.
So this weekend I am finishing the first parts for him, a userinterface to administer the members and a export function so he can export his payments to XML so he can send them over to the bank for automatic payments.
The next function will be a webcam interface to take a picture of new members for in the system and connect a bar-code scanner so people can scan their membershipcard when the enter and leave the gym. After that many more whishes, but will do one at a time.
I think it's cool if you can help someone out this way and at the other hand I am refreshing my programming skills again :) I say a win-win...
