My oldest son has had his driver's license for two weeks. He is only seventeen (since January) but has already passed his exam. As parents we are of course proud of that. In the Netherlands you can only drive when you are 18, but you can get your driving license (as my son has now done) at the age of seventeen. You may then (until you are eighteen) only drive with so-called coaches. You can choose five. My son has appointed us (my wife and I), grandfather and grandmother and a good friend of ours as coaches.
That good friend is my best friend, we have known each other for over 32 years. She had a nice surprise for my son. She called him up and asked him if he wanted to go for a drive. Of course he wanted to, especially if you just got your driver's license, and met her last Saturday. He thought she was coming with her own car, but nothing could be further from the truth. She came to drive a Ford Mustang Shelby GT350. A crazy racing monster with way too much horsepower. An exclusive car that you don't see that often. (in fact, there are only 8 of them in the Netherlands).
She had arranged for him to drive it himself, together with her. When he saw the car he was completely impressed, he could not believe that he was allowed to drive in it and was very nervous. And I understand that, you don't experience that very often I think.
They have been driving around for almost two hours, sometimes we could hear the engine (exhaust) in the distance, but they have really been everywhere.
When I asked how the hell she got to that car, she said it belonged to an acquaintance of hers. He had bought that car last year as a '2nd' car. Apparently she was so bold to ask if she could surprise my son with it and he liked the idea. Isn't it special?
He had the afternoon of his life and I am jealous haha .. I have never driven a car like this ....
