Today my wife and I did a 5K: she walked/jogged and I ran/jogged the whole thing. It’s been over a year since I’ve last run in a 5K.
I did not prepare whatever for this event, so I didn’t have high hopes, but I lined up towards the front with the very athletic and lean runners. I’m glad I did so, because they really motivated me to run almost the whole thing.
I counted 5-6 times when I walked, but only for about ten seconds each time. I would count in my head and then begin running again. I saw a teacher I used to work with up ahead of me, and I was actively trying to catch up to her almost the whole race. She ended up finishing about 10 seconds before me. My time was 29:55, which I’m proud of for not having run in a seriously long time. I just figured “hey, if I have to run from a lion or something I’m going to have to do it. And so I ran.
I got water about what must’ve been the halfway mark, and then didn’t take any more until the end. I sprinted the last leg because I heard someone yell “You can make it in under 30!!! I decided I would, so I went for it. My lungs were shot after I finished. I picked up my arms, put my palms on the nape if my neck, and focused on my breathing. It was very hard for me to not vomit at this point, as I felt quite queasy. It also didn’t help that right after I finished, the people handing out water were scrambling to pour the water. I had to wait about 1 minute after finishing to get a cup. Had I known if I had kept walking, there were many people handing out bottles ahead, I would’ve much rather done that. I had some coffee, chocolate, and a couple bananas before the race.
Thanks for stopping by, Steemians!!!
