O. Henry "Selected Stories"
Today I went to a second-hand bookstore. I usually stay there for a long time, go and leaf through old books. But today I took the second book and immediately went to the cashier.
This hardcover book was released in 1978, almost half a century ago, but it looks like new. Large print, just what I need, eyes rest while reading. The book contains very beautiful illustrations by the artist I. Semenov. I was walking down the street and in these illustrations I recognized moments from stories that I had read many years ago.
How beautifully drawn is the moment when the thief made friends with the one he wanted to rob. This is a scene from the story Kindred Souls.
And this is a story known to many - "Leader of the Redskins"
I watched several films based on these stories during my school years. I like the humor of O Henry. My favorite story by this writer is Hymen's Handbook. In this story, a statistical reference book turned out to be more useful than a book with poems by Omar Khayyam :)
I will take this book with me to the beach, to the park, lie down on the grass on a sunny day and read slowly. With good things, it's better not to rush in this life.
Did you read the stories of O. Henry?
