If I go to a place with a lot of old buildings or a place that has been neglected for a long time, I usually see a lot of graffiti. Some are just plain doodles without meaning and there are doodles that have a special meaning, which the street artist who made them wanted to convey. Like the painting with the following lion theme.
I don't really understand the content of this painting, whether this is an image of an old male lion or a lioness with an ornament on her head. At a glance, I saw this street painting as an old male lion, his face depicting some kind of sadness or compassion, this is a lion that has a loving demeanor. The look in his eyes depicts despair, plus there is no "frightful" impression on his face, coupled with shades of pink around it, it looks like he wants to ask the world "why ?"
But to be honest I doubt if this is a picture of a male lion, could this be a sad mother lion? So that the look in her eyes depicts the expression of a mother's affection. the painter wanted to depict the heartbreak of a mother who had lost a child or a woman who had lost her husband, so that the nuances around the lion image were filled with pink and purple. In Indonesia, we call purple the color "widow" which expresses a woman who has lost her husband.
I found this painting of a lion on the wall of a shop located at the Old Fish Tax / Pajak ikan lama in Medan City. The old fish tax / Pajak ikan lama is located on Jalan Ahmad Yani, Medan City. The old fish tax is one of the traditional shopping centers / wholesale centers in Medan that sells various clothes, carpets, accessories and other souvenirs. Even though it is called the Fish Tax, none of the shops here sell fish. Street painters make places that look shabby even more beautiful, because the walls used as media for painting are the walls of old buildings whose paint is starting to peel off.
