It was a sunny and mild morning as I toed the line to start the long trek around the .82 mile dirt path around Palmer Lake for the next 24 long hours.

Not a great sleep before the race but I was feeling and I hoped to finish with at least 50 miles.
I cruised along at an easy 12 minutes or so pace on the mostly level dirt path. Over 200 runners started the race so I hung comfortably around the rear of the pack as we circled the peaceful shallow lake with mountains as our backdrop.

Things were good for about 13 miles but then I felt like walking and my pace really slowed and my motivation began to wane for some reason.
However I managed to start running again as I hit the marathon point and my legs felt good enough to ramp up my pace and the miles began to add up and once again my spirit improved as it looked like I would hit 50 miles today.
The trek to 50 miles was a struggle over the final few miles but I reached 50 miles a little bit after 13 hours at which point I decided to try to get some much needed sleep overnight and run/walk some more on Sunday if my body cooperated.
