A Wednesday Actifit report for running up and down on the trails.
A change of pace this morning with a hilly trail run from the Thumb Butte recreation area trailhead past the Butte and along the dusty and up and down single track through the forest. Nice to see a good number of people out enjoying the day as well but I wad still able to enjoy mostly solitude on my run.
The first couple of miles were a steady uphill grind to the base of the Butte and then the trails looped among the Ponderosa pines and granite outcrops to finish back at the trailhead.
Still very warm but the occasional breeze helped to moderate the temperature a bit but it will be so wonderful when we get some meaningful rain. Nothing more enjoyable than running through the forest after the rains - the sweet smell of the pines is awesome!!
I did a nice relaxed hike on the nearby Centennial Trail end to end to end up with about 6 miles additional exercise to close out my day.
I picked up dome pharmaceutical grade DMSO to see if it had any effect on my sore leg muscles. I'm trying out a solution of about 20% or so swabbed onto my thighs. I'll report if I notice any improvement going forward.
Time to sleep and now look forward to a "shorter" race next month - a half marathon up in Holbrook on old Route 66. Hopefully there's some speed in these old legs.
