Uko and Emem's Wedding: It Wasn't Authorised
The people of Ikot village were excited when they heard that Uko and Emem were getting married. The young couple had been in love for years and wanted to begin their new life together. Friends decorated the hall, musicians prepared their instruments, and guests arrived dressed in beautiful traditional attire.
Just before the ceremony began, an elderly family member stood up and announced that the marriage had not been authorised by both families. According to the village tradition, the elders from each family had to meet, agree on the union, and give their blessing before any wedding could take place. Since this important step had been skipped, the ceremony could not continue.
The joyful atmosphere quickly turned into silence. Uko and Emem realised they had been so eager to marry that they ignored the proper process. They apologised to their parents, relatives, and guests for their mistake.
The elders arranged a family meeting the following week. During the meeting, both families discussed the marriage peacefully and eventually gave their full approval. After the traditional rites were completed, the wedding was officially authorised.
A month later, Uko and Emem celebrated their marriage with even greater joy. This time, everyone attended with happy hearts because the union had received the support and blessing of both families. The couple learned that patience, respect for tradition, and following the right procedures are essential for lasting peace and happiness. Their wedding became a lesson to the entire community that important decisions should never be rushed or taken without proper authorisation.
