Several significant events took place in this boxing competition. Among the most outstanding we can mention the following: Jorge Hernandez of Cuba, became the first amateur world champion in history; Wilfredo "Bazuca" Gomez of Puerto Rico, won all his fights by knockout; 17 of the 45 countries achieved at least one medal; the fight developed by the Yugoslavian Mate Parlov and the Cuban Gilberto Carrillo is considered one of the most spectacular in the history of these fights; Vasili Solomin was selected as the most technical boxer of the World Championship, Ayube Kalule became the first African boxer to win a world title in this sport and the little Cuban boxer Douglas Rodriguez fought the World Championship with an injured punching hand, which did not prevent him from beating all his rivals.

By way of conclusion

On August 27, the Night of International Boxing Champions was held in Havana, Cuba, as a tribute, among other things, to the first world amateur boxing championship that took place in this capital in 1974.

The level of quality shown in the event, the fights developed among the rivals, the level of attention and organization and all the facilities provided for the event have made it the best of all those that have been held so far.

In that first event, Cuba would begin a harvest of world titles that exceeds 80 gold medals and that places it in the first place by countries and has been the country that has won more world championships of all those that have been held. Havana was the beginning of this epic.
