Two historic players at the head of their zones at the start of the National Series #65
Greetings to the entire Full Deportes community, after months of inactivity, I am back with Cuban national baseball, and the collective and individual performance of the teams involved in the current baseball contest. Of course I will emphasize the performance of my team from Pinar del Río, which is currently the leader of its section.
Vegueros led by Alfonso Urquiola rule the West
Before starting the season, there were more doubts than certainties regarding the Pinar del Río team, especially after the departure of its oldest hitters, Alexei Ramírez (doping) and William Saavedra (retirement), however, the enthusiasm did not fall to the ground because a 74-year-old old fox named Alfonso Urquiola had an idea in his already veteran brain. With this new generation, the change that was needed was abrupt, he created a team according to the needs of the team and he is achieving it. The result was 10 wins in 12 starts, 8 of them consecutively. Their closest rival has 7 wins, so they are alone at the top. Perhaps several of the baseball connoisseurs on the platform, @fermionico, should know the career of old Alfonso, and his time in Panama. In addition to being the last Cuban manager to win the Caribbean Series when in 2015 Pinar del Río's own team was crowned in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
Santiago wants to return to the throne lost for 20 years
The Avispas of Santiago de Cuba, a team with a lot of tradition in Cuban baseball, wants to live again the joy of winning a domestic championship. With solid batting, the indomitable team intend to once again lift a trophy that has eluded them since 2007. Of the so-called Big 4 of baseball in Cuba, Santiago and Villa Clara are the ones that have not won for the longest time. With hitters of the caliber of Yoelkis Guibert, Yoel Yanqui and Adriel Labrada, the Santiago team must advance to the Postseason. In their area there is also a team that knows how to fight, such as Sancti Spiritus, which has an old acquaintance like Frederich Cepeda, as well as luxury relief pitching.
The possible qualifiers for the Postseason in both areas
As I was talking with an official journalist, he told me that the Postseason format will be under the page system, with 4 qualifiers per zone, with clashes of first against second and third against fourth in each zone, a system that is typical in softball. In the West, my possible qualifiers are logically Pinar del Río and they should be accompanied by Industriales, Matanzas and Artemisa, while in the Eastern zone, Santiago de Cuba, Sancti Spiritus, Las Tunas and Holguín should be the qualifiers.
A final comment
Perhaps today the National Series does not have the quality of many years ago, but that does not mean that all Cubans have the passion to go to the stadium, enjoy our teams and, above all, experience a show that for all is the Cultural Heritage of the nation.
