It’s important to know that many of us aren’t living life the right way. All we do is work, work, and save everything to spend after retirement. It’s not that saving for retirement is a bad thing, but many people die without ever enjoying their lives. They work themselves to exhaustion only to leave everything behind without truly enjoying the money they worked so hard to earn. Since no one knows when death will come, it is essential that we live life to the fullest and without regrets.
Building wealth is a good thing, especially when you have enough to take care of yourself in retirement. At that point, it is best to pursue the things you enjoy and truly live your life. When you become old, you may no longer have the strength or health to enjoy life to the fullest. Instead, you may only have memories of work, which, in the end, may not seem worthwhile.
The truth is that nothing lasts forever. We need to understand that we should enjoy life during our golden years, perhaps between the ages of 50 and 65, when many people have accumulated enough resources to take care of themselves while still being active enough to enjoy life. It is better to start living before retirement than to wait until then to do something meaningful with your life.
You shouldn’t work yourself to the point of exhaustion and forget to enjoy the money you have worked hard to earn. This is not to say that you shouldn’t save money or leave an inheritance for your children. In fact, it may be better to give your children part of their inheritance while you are still alive rather than waiting until you die before they can access it. They are likely to be younger and better able to put it to good use while building their own lives.
In many cases, people inherit wealth when they are around 60 years old. By that time, they may have fewer opportunities or less energy to make the most of it compared to when they were younger and more active.
It is not worth living your entire life just to work. I once read about a Nigerian care worker who died while at work. He had not slept for more than three days because he wanted to finish building his house back home. Sadly, he never lived to see the house he worked so hard to build. Of course, he never knew he would die when he did. It was a tragic reminder that life is unpredictable. We have to learn to live while we are still alive.
Some people are not truly living; they are merely surviving. At the same time, not having enough money can also prevent someone from living a fulfilling life because it limits the choices they can make. Such people often have very few options available to them.
It is good to learn the principle of Die with Zero. There is little value in accumulating vast resources that you never use or enjoy. Sometimes people spend their entire lives building wealth only for it to remain unused, even by their children, who may eventually create their own wealth.
We should learn how to live well, eat healthy food, and avoid working ourselves to exhaustion because, in the end, it is not worth it. Although there are times in life when we must deny ourselves certain pleasures for the sake of our future, that should not stop us from truly living our lives.
