Todavía no.

.

Me gustaría conocer Medellín.

He intentado renegociarla, pero no he logrado conseguirla.

No sé todavía cuál sería mi primera ruta.

Vuestro,
Tío Lucio el Viajero.

English Version
The incredible Bogotá from the plane window: Colombia, which is still waiting for me, or I wait for it...
Dear nieces and nephews of this traveling #community, I know that it is normal to tell you from lived experience... Today I want to write to you from nostalgia, about one of the countries that I have been dreaming of visiting for a long time.
In reality, Colombia is one of my top favorite countries in America, although I have to make a confession: I have not yet walked its streets, I have not slept in its towns, I have not walked through its mountains...
Not yet.
I don't have the foggiest idea why I love him, but I love him, yes, I love him secretly. Without knowing for sure why. But that's how things go when they are from the soul.
Bogotá from the plane
He was traveling from Moscow to Havana on a Turkish Airlines flight, when the plane made a technical stopover in Bogotá.
And there appeared that strange impression that only those of us who travel a lot, or perhaps, quite the opposite, those of us who long to travel and often cannot... The childish feeling of wanting something and not having it...
I was in Bogotá Colombia, and I was not
.
It is sad to have to tell them from the absence of presence, since it was not a tourist visit; I didn't even step foot in the airport.
I was in Colombia, but I couldn't get off the plane.
What thing! For a few hours I landed in Bogotá, and I had to settle for seeing her through the plane window. Oh. That was enough to awaken even more the desire to travel through Colombia.
I looked through the glass and thought about all those roads that one day I would like to travel, in the mountains, in the towns, in the cities, on the beaches... and in that diversity of landscapes that make Colombia one of the countries that arouse the most curiosity in me in America.
I can assure you that I did not get off the plane, but the Bogotá that entered through my window supported my travel desires.
Bogotá through the Glass
When you look at a city from a plane you don't really know it. That's clear to me. I can't say that I knew Bogotá because I saw its lights, its buildings or its mountains on a small technical scale.
But I can say that I was excited to see it.
From that window I began to think about a future arrival in Bogotá, this time with my feet on the ground.
The first thing I want to know when traveling to Bogotá
.
When I finally get to travel to Colombia, Bogotá will be among my first stops.
I want to walk through La Candelaria, get lost in its streets, look at its facades and enter those places that I find without having previously searched for them.
I want to know the Plaza de Bolívar and feel that mix of history, architecture and daily life that the great Latin American squares have.
I want to visit the Gold Museum, not only for the pieces it houses, but for everything it represents to understand the cultures that existed in this territory long before the arrival of my European parents.
I also want to visit the Botero Museum, walk around its surroundings and discover that part of Colombian culture that I have seen so many times from afar. Which many Colombian friends in Havana and Moscow have told me about.
I want to look at Bogotá from Monserrate. Breathe it. If I can, I would even place my tent on the top and spend the entire night observing it, no longer from the window of a plane, but with my feet on its mountains.
I want to know the Bogotá of the neighborhoods
.
I have mentioned the attractions that appear in all the guides, because when you want to travel to a place you don't know yet, the first thing is to start reading, documenting...
But I also want to stay away from the places that appear in all the guides. Walk through entire neighborhoods. Enter a store. Have one of the best coffees on the planet. Try local food. Talk to unknown people. Wrong street. Find a small square where you can rest for a while…
That is the Colombia that interests me the most. Not only the Colombia of photographs.
Travel throughout Colombia. Bogotá would only be the beginning. Colombia is too big and diverse to settle for just one city. And if something attracts me to this country, it is precisely that variety.
I want to know its mountains, its coasts, its towns, its jungles, its rivers and its roads. Travel slowly. SlowTravel is my favorite way to live. and, if I can, Travel through Colombia by Bicycle.
Medellin
.
I would like to know Medellín.
Get to know the Puppeteers of Medellín and Cali; their Theater festivals and the way they do Art, Culture.
I am a fan of all means of transportation, although the train will always be my favorite. I want to ride their transportation systems, walk their neighborhoods, get to know their parks, talk to their inhabitants (always talk), and understand how Medellin residents live today.
.
And, of course, I would like to leave the city to see the landscapes of Antioquia.
Cartagena
.
I want to arrive in Cartagena de Indias as if I were an experienced admiral. Walk through the walled city. See the Caribbean. Feel that heat that I already know from my Cuba. But I also want to move away from the tourist postcard. Because Cartagena cannot be just a beautiful wall and a photograph in front of a door.
Cali, the great love
.
And if I'm talking about Colombia, there is a city that I can't leave out.
Cali.
Curiously, Cali is my favorite city in Colombia and I have not yet had the opportunity to walk through its streets. It may seem like it, but that's poetry. Travelers also fall in love with places that we first know through their stories, their music, their photographs, the people we have met and everything we imagine doing when we finally arrive.
My Trip to Egypt began my readings about that destination, and, instantly, specific places that I would visit of course jumped out: Luxor, the Great Egyptian Museum, the Boats of the Nile, the Valley of the Kings, Climbing Mount Sinai... I know they are Instagram postcards, but many of these destinations that first captivated my desire to Travel to the Land of the Pharaohs, later, were well worth it when I was there.
Cali attracts me in a special way.
Perhaps it is that cheerful character that I have heard Cali people describe so many times, and that I like so much to share. Maybe it's the mountains that surround the city, the Farallones, the Cali River, the old neighborhoods, the streets full of music and that combination between city and nature that I look for so much when I travel.
I think that my jug, to which I wish premonitory gifts, helps me maintain the desire to Travel through Cali.
.
I had another black jug on the Christ of Cali, one of those that shows its image when heated, but my princess Lucía snatched it from me with all possible strength. I have tried to renegotiate it, but I have not been able to get it. Ha ha ha.
If I were to tell you about everything I wanted to visit in Cali, I would have to write you another complete page about my Colombian city-love.
The Colombian towns
.
There is something that attracts me a lot about Colombia: its colorful towns.
I want to visit small towns where I can still walk without knowing exactly where I'm going. I want to sit in a central square and remember my childhood. Buy something to eat. And maybe end up in a place that didn't even appear in my plans.
Route through Colombia by Bicycle
.
If one day Colombia really enters my travel calendar, I know for sure that I want to take my bike.
I don't know yet what my first route would be.
Maybe Bogotá and the surrounding area, or cross the Andes, go towards the coast, but if I would like to visit the Andean Community on one of my trips. Or maybe it's better to start pedaling without knowing exactly where I'm going to end up.
That last one would be very typical of me; Well in the end, no matter how much I try to organize myself, I always miss the list and end up taking the first train that parks in front of me.
Colombia also calls me because of its nature
.
As a traveler and nature lover, the first thing would be to get to know the Andes. I want to walk through the Sierra Nevada. I want to discover its natural parks. I want to know its rivers, see its birds, feel the change in climate that can occur in a few kilometers.
I want to experience that enormous geographic diversity that allows Colombia to offer mountains, charming cities, the Caribbean, the Pacific, jungle and plains within the same country.
And above all, I would like to do it without running.
Colombia, one of my favorites
Saying that Colombia is one of my favorite countries in America may seem strange when I haven't had the opportunity to visit it yet. But there are countries that begin to attract you before you visit them. Like Egypt, Italy, Thailand, Russia… Heh heh.
I suppose it's because of its landscapes, its culture, the stories you hear, the people you meet, the travelers you share with...
.
And that technical stopover in Bogotá only increased the desire. A kind of "look, Lucio, here I am..., but it's not your time yet."
See you soon, Colombia
When the plane took off again, Bogotá began to get smaller beneath us. It only took a few minutes for the city to completely disappear.
I continued my journey. But I took something with me: the image of a city rooted in its mountains; and the promise of returning one day, but that time it will be a different way.
Until then, Colombia will continue waiting for me. And I will continue traveling. We'll see each other's faces...
In the end, I didn't have time to get to know Colombia. But I had time to imagine it. And I'm sure that dreaming about a trip is the first part of making it a reality.
Until we meet again.
Yours,
Uncle Lucio the Traveler.
