Chop Suey is a popular dish in every Filipino home. It is a stir-fried mixed vegetables dish in thick sauce added with pork, shrimp or chicken.

Though Chop Suey is an American - Chinese dish in origin, Filipinos adapted it and removed the noodles in the original recipe.

A very healthy dish as it comprises of vegetables such as cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower, carrots and chayote or vegetable pear. The dish is made flavorful by adding meat, shrimp or chicken.

In this article, I will share with you how to cook Chop Suey, the easy way!

It's a good to know that supermarkets nowadays have been selling ready-to-cook vegetable mix. You will have the peeled and sliced veggies in a very cheap price.

Premixed ChopSuey Sauce powder

THE INGREDIENTS

Mixed Vegetables such as;
Cauliflower
Broccoli
Carrots
Chayote
Bottle Gourd (Upo)
Mushroom
Hard Boiled Eggs

200g Pork Meat
100g Shrimp
100g Squid Balls

Onion
Garlic
Pre-mixed Sauce

PREPARATION

Sauce
Add the pack of premixed powder in 1/2 cup water. Mix well until the powder dissolves. Set aside.

Boil the shrimp for 2 minutes, peel the shell. Remove its head and tail. Do not discard the water used in boiling. Place the head in the boiled water and crush it. The flavor of the shrimp is in the head. Set aside. We will use water as additional flavoring.

PROCEDURE

Saute the pork until golden brown.

Saute the garlic and onion.

Add the shrimp and the squid balls.

Add the mushrooms. The flavor of mushrooms comes out when it is sautéed.

Add the mixed veggies and stir fry. Mix well.

Add the pre mix sauce and water of the shrimp.

Cover and simmer for 3 minutes. Do not overcook.

Put in the serving dish and place the sliced hard boiled egg on top.
Quail egg is often added but if it is not available, chicken egg will do.

Serve while it's hot, to enjoy the crunchiness of the veggies.
