I spend a lot of time on the water interacting with various marine mammal species. Of all of these species, my favourite still has to be whales and of these whale species, I do have a special place in my heart for humpback whales. When I have opportunity to interact with these animals I find myself constantly having to remember to put the camera down and simply enjoy the moment with these gentle giants.

In this picture, which my colleague and friend took of me in such a moment. We were zodiac cruising in an area called, Paradise Bay and all of sudden a humpback whale appeared not too far from where we were. I situated the vessel beside the whale a few 100m away and I made sure we were completely out of the animal's path. After a few minutes of watching the huge marine mammal, it appeared out of no where right beside my zodiac. The big female came right up to us, slowly rolled on her side to take a quick glance of us before diving down on a deep dive. Lucky for me my friend took the picture as the whale descended down with my arms raised up in a moment of pure joy.
