Creative Nonfiction in The Ink Well Prompt #93
Welcome to The Ink Well's weekly creative nonfiction prompt!
In this post, we'll announce the winners from last month's contest and provide the prompt for the coming week.
Before You Write Your Creative Nonfiction Post...
We ask that you read our Creative Nonfiction Tips post to learn about the creative nonfiction genre and review our guidelines.
Important notes:
- Creative nonfiction stories are based on your real-life experiences.
- We are looking for real short stories! Not advice columns, reports on crime or corruption in your city, observations on nature, recipes, religion, politics, or any other nonfiction content. Just real-life short stories.
- Ideal story length is between 750 and 1500 words, but your story must be at least 350 words, at a minimum to be curated.
- Please focus on quality content. Read and edit for errors! Use a grammar checker before you post your story.
- We expect everyone who posts in The Ink Well to read and comment on at least two other stories for each one published.
- Do not post stories featuring physical abuse, graphic violence, erotica or NSFW content.

When Silence Makes The Loudest Noise
We were just teenagers when we met at a factory somewhere in Lagos, and our relationship went from being just colleagues to best friends over the years. We did so many things together, and a lot of people thought we were dating, but that wasn't the case.
Curator's comment :
George-dee's story sort of sneaks up on you. It is told quietly, with a subdued voice. The resolution, the end of the story really makes the piece memorable. George-dee reflects on how what they have is precious but cannot last. Time will erode somehow their relationship. The last line is almost haunting: " I didn't know if I was ready for what the future held, but I was aware, unlike Opeyemi, who thought we would be like that forever."

Like a swinging pendulum
Right after Victor approached me and I refused his proposal, he began sending his friends and elderly people in the church to plead with me. I was told he was a responsible young man who would be able to take care of me. He had a business, he was educated, came from a well-to-do background, he loved God, and he was the perfect man for me.
Curator's comment :
All in all, this author offers a very clear, engaging account of a marriage that should not take place.

I'll call that little part of my life confusion
I was starting a new relationship after two years without a partner. My last relationship had ended for various reasons, but it had been the distance that had managed to definitively break what was hanging by a thread. My new relationship was growing and I felt happier than ever before. My boyfriend was a kind, loving person, with whom I shared many interests, among them literature, university, and music. In short, everything was going smoothly.
Curator's comment :
nancybriti1 writes a heartfelt and very poignant CNF about crossing paths again with her ex, when he and she have both moved on to new relationships. Still, she discovers that he pines for her. It is a bittersweet moment when he says that he thinks they are still in love, and she tells him love is sometimes not enough.
