Welcome to The Ink Well's weekly creative nonfiction prompt!

In this post, we'll announce the winners from last week's contest and provide the prompt for the coming week.

Before You Write Your Creative Nonfiction Post...

We ask that you read our Creative Nonfiction Tips post to learn about the creative nonfiction genre and review our guidelines.

Important notes:

• Creative nonfiction stories are based on your real-life experiences.
• We are looking for real short stories! Not advice columns, reports on crime or corruption in your city, observations on nature, recipes, religion, politics, or any other nonfiction content. Just real-life short stories.
• Ideal story length is between 750 and 1500 words, but your story must be at least 350 words, at a minimum to be curated.
• Please focus on quality content. Read and edit for errors! Use a grammar checker before you post your story.
• We expect everyone who posts in The Ink Well to read and comment on at least two other stories for each one published.
• Do not post stories featuring physical abuse, graphic violence, erotica or NSFW content.

Unveiling Shadows

A sea of questioning eyes shifted in my direction. Mr. Prince advanced with a gaze that seemed capable of probing the depths of my soul. Beside him was a female examiner. With every nearing stride, my heart threatened to escape the confines of my mouth. It was very unusual for the dean of studies to barge into the examination hall.

Curator's comment :

zyzymena shows craft and intelligence in her CNF piece. She recounts the time when she took an exam and was suspected of cheating. She brings us to the moment when she is suspected and publicly searched for forbidden test materials. She resolves the piece with an explanation. A fellow student was jealous and wanted to destroy her standing in school.

My designer shoes

A wave of infectious laughter erupted from Gift, throwing him to the floor. He clutched his stomach, gasping between roars as tears ran down his face. "Fanegomo, the distant cousin of Ferragamo!"

Curator's comment :

kushyzee demonstrates his considerable narrative skills in his most recent CNF piece about buying a pair of counterfeit designer shoes. The author captures the moments of self-discovery and embarrassment well. His piece is accompanied by pictures of the shoes. The pictures prove how badly he was deceived, but we don't need the pictures to appreciate the experience. His words convey that nicely.

This Week's Prompt 67:

"Book or Books"

The word “book” can refer to a written work or a reservation of time or space. For instance:

• The book a friend recommended offered a novel perspective that totally changed your outlook on life.
• The flight booking was cancelled due to weather concerns. As a result, you avoided being caught in a devastating storm that rocked your intended vacation destination.

Tell us about it! And remember to integrate storytelling elements like characters, scene setting, dialogue and action to bring your story to life!

• Write a real-life story with the creative elements of fiction, like characters, dialogue, scene setting and a story conflict.
• Post your story in The Ink Well Community.

• Stories must be written in English. If you've translated the post, it's best to add the original version below the translation. Do not write mixed language paragraphs.
• Read and comment on at least two stories in the community. Add a link to your story as a comment on this post.
