In this post, we'll provide the prompt for the coming week.
We ask that you read our Creative Nonfiction Tips post to learn about the creative nonfiction genre and review our guidelines.
Important notes:
Thank you to all who participated in last week's prompt : Drop a bombshell.
Highlighting @joycealarapon, with the story:
It felt like the ground beneath me shifted. I couldn't hold back my tears. I wanted to reject it, but there was nothing I could do. The only option was to accept it.
Curator's comment :
A wonderful CNF from Joycealarapon for the *dropped a bombshell* prompt about her year of National Service in Nigeria. She is halfway through it but because there were initial delays with her medical, she ended up being posted to a State far from her own and also to a remote village. At first, she was distraught as she wondered how she was going to juggle her service life with her personal life (own business, content creation) but what she found in the rural village took her by surprise. She was forced to slow down and learn to be patient with herself and life. She realised that we may not always get what we think we need but that sometimes we learn the lessons we need to learn in the places we don't want to be. Love her philosophy! Love the writing!
Highlighting @zerah, with the story:
On my end, I was more focused on expertly manoeuvring through the chaos with my grip tightened on my handbag and my tiny shawl covering my head from the boiling sun, which threatened to burn off the sole of my shoes. My legs were already dusty and I could hear my breath rising with each step I took.
Curator's comment :
@zerah writes a CNF piece that has a pleasing balance between atmosphere and action. Oftentimes authors settle for atmosphere over action. Not here.
@zerah offers us high drama when she tries to pay for rice and realizes she has lost not only her money but important documents from her purse. The piece resolves nicely when a young man returns the missing items. This is very well written.
Highlighting @popurri, with the story:

Messages with the results of each polling station in my state and in other states of the country were already being passed through the networks, and the excitement was very great, because I could not wait for the results to be announced.
Curator's comment :
popurri writes about her dramatic reaction to the unfairness of election results in her country, which she believes were rigged. This is a wonderfully sensitive and demonstrative piece that tugs at the heart.
Highlighting @hazmat, with the story:
This line of questioning wasn't new to me, it was the cheerful tone in which I was asked that gave me pause. Mum knew exactly when my exams were starting as she'd already asked like a million times only in the past month.
Curator's comment :
hazmat offers a well rounded CNF about his mother’s (love) sacrifice in the face of his final exams. Hazmat failed to understand his mother’s strict attitude, until he realised that her exclusions (on fun) became a two way pain they both had to endure in order to be successful. Nice!
Meaning:
Means that a belief in one’s self or circumstance can overcome seemingly insurmountable obstacles.
