It's the Playstations birthday so here are some fun facts about it and it's legacy.
It Started off as the Nintendo Playstation. Originally it was a joint project between Nintendo and Sony to create a CD-ROM for the Super Famicom. Eventually the deal would fall apart but not before reportedly 200 prototypes were made.

When The SONY Playstation was released in Japan it sold 100,000 units on the first day. Part of their success is their approach to the third party developers. Sony streamlined the process and made it easier for developer to create for their system. At the close of 1996, approximately 400 games were being developed for the PlayStation.
Sony continues to put an emphasis on third-parties even today, hence why they have so many third-party exclusives
After the success of the original PS and then the PS2 sony moved on to the Playstation 3. Which was good at processing images that the U.S military made a super computer out of it. It's capable of performing 500 trillion floating point operations per second (TFLOPS), making it the fastest interactive computer in the entire US Defense Department at the time.
And now we wait for the next generation. Here's to another 25 years of play.
